What inspires your work on ending childhood sexual violence?
A voice from a girl I met while working on our initiatives on menstrual hygiene for secondary school girls in rural areas ,this was shinyanga. When I asked what the girls knew about menstrual hygiene this girl said she just wishes one day she will use sanitary pads.I asked what she was using now was pieces of clothes and I asked do other girls get sanitary pad,she said yes but they pay high price. Was curious I found time to talk to her after the session she told me they get them at the shop in exchange for sex.My heart broke and felt so helpless since then I knew sexual violence is real and very deeply routed and promised never to stop to bring justice for these children.
One highlight from your experience in the SPROUT fellowship
Apart from having crucial unique angle of focus on systems transformation, it’s the individual focus too. Loved the meditation part because as a leader I have learned the hard way the importance of taking time for myself. And the importance of getting a minute to recharge and come back to the work we do.It is the crucial thing to do.
